At 6am, August 26th, multiple self-organised refugee accommodation squats in Exarcheia, Athens were raided and shut down by police. Over 120 people were arrested. Those with papers were taken to prison, at this stage is unknown what happened to those without papers.

 

“by the end of the month they (Greece’s New Democracy government) will have put an end to Athens’ experiment with autonomous urban governance and its grassroots refugee solidarity network, which currently houses over 1,000 people”
This article gives context to this latest spate of evictions and state control of working alternatives to overcrowded camps and deportation.
