Maurizio Cattelan installed this sculpture out the front of Milan’s stock exchange to criticise Italy’s fascist past and its contemporary capitalist tendencies. The ‘birdy’ is actually flipped to the public, not the building.
The colossal artwork was meant to be a temporary public sculpture but after much public petitioning, it is now permanent – a constant reminder to the people about what the 1% really thinks of them.
